Gold prices continue to crash: No need for Indian investors to worry?
After giving fabulous returns for nearly a decade, gold has done the unthinkable. It has actually declined in the past six months! What has turned this safe avenue into a loss-making investment? The main reason for gold's short-term weakness is the rise of the dollar due to the economic crisis in Europe. The dollar has also moved up on the hopes that the US economy is emerging from its crises, which could nudge the Federal Reserve to withdraw the stimulus package earlier than expected.

Report: 8-year-old boy killed in Boston Marathon blasts identified CNN
Richard’s mother, Denise, and his six-year-old sister were reported to have been seriously injured in the explosion that killed three and wounded 144.
The family was at the race to watch the father, William Richard, run, NBC station WHDH reported. A third child was reportedly uninjured.
Friends of the family gathered at Tavolo Restaurant on Monday night in Dorchester, where William Richard is a community leader. Denise Richard worked at the local Neighborhood House Charter School, The Associated Press reported
“They are beloved by this community. They contribute in many ways.
That’s why you see this outpouring,” City Councilor at Large Ayanna
Pressley told the Boston Globe. “It’s surreal, it’s tragic, it’s
incomprehensible. Everyone here tonight is trying to comfort one another
and be prayerful.”

Bostonians and others rush to support stranded visitors
hey're offering their spare rooms, their couches, their food, their cars -- even their own beds.
A huge wave of strangers
is greeting the many visitors stranded by the Boston Marathon bombings
with a massive outpouring of support.
"We figure this is the least we can do," said Heather Carey, who offered a couch at the home near Boston University she shares with roommates. "I saw a website with many others offering their spaces like we did. It is awesome to see so many people helping."
The twin blasts Monday
that left three dead and more than 140 wounded also left countless
people without shelter. Investigators turned the heart of Boston into a
crime scene, evacuating several hotels. This left dozens of visitors,
some of them international runners unfamiliar with the area, stranded.

Boston bombings heighten safety concerns
By Monday evening, pleas were posted on several websites.
"Me and my friends lost
our phone after the explosion," a woman posted on Reddit. "We are
visiting from Korea so our English be not very good. My friend is in the
hospital now and they say we can not stay over night in hospital."
Another woman posted: "I have no where to go."
Quickly, the online cries
for help were answered. Websites were flooded with Bostonians offering
aid. Even though it was unclear how many people were helped, by early
Tuesday morning a Facebook page set up for victims listed more than 100
people offering rooms and rides.
Sandeep Karnik pledged his one-bedroom condo near Fenway Park, saying someone could sleep in his bed.
"I can sleep on the couch," said Karnik, 37. "This is unfathomable, terrible. If there is somebody in need, I can take them in."
Karnik said he ran the
marathon in 2009 for charity despite a knee injury and being slightly
out of shape. He said he would have never finished the race without the
support of strangers cheering him on and giving him water.
"It is my turn to give back," he said.
Steve Trotto offered two
guest rooms in his home about 45 minutes away from downtown. He said he
was proud of the response from people in the New England area.
And it's not only people in the area who were moved to action.
David Semick of Northern California was also offering support early Tuesday morning.
"Clearly I'm way out of
the Boston area," Semick said. "But maybe there is a relative that lives
over here that needs something. I am here to help. I am 3,000 miles
away, and I was so touched by this. So many of us want to help anyway we
can."
BBC
BBC
LONDON—The British Broadcasting Corp. appointed James Harding, the former editor of the Times of London newspaper, as director of news and current affairs, replacing Helen Boaden who stepped aside last year in the wake of a probe into the BBC's handling of a report on the late TV host Jimmy Savile.
Mr. Harding resigned from the Times in December, saying it was made clear to him that News Corp NWSA +0.56% ., the paper's parent company, wanted a new editor. News Corp. owns Dow Jones & Co., publisher of The Wall Street Journal.
New BBC Director-General Tony Hall, who took
up his role April 2, said Mr. Harding's "very impressive track record as
a journalist, editor and manager" will help give BBC News "a renewed
sense of purpose as it moves away from what has been an undeniably
difficult chapter."
"As an organization, the BBC will also benefit from his external perspective and experience which he will share as a member of the BBC's executive team," Mr. Hall said.
Mr. Harding, who was appointed editor of the Times in 2007 at the age of 38, said he was "honored" to join the broadcaster. The BBC newsroom, he said, "strives to be the best in the world, trusted for its accuracy, respected for its fairness and admired for the courage of its reporting."
Mr. Harding, who was also previously Washington bureau chief of the Financial Times, will start in his new role in August and will receive a total package of £340,000 ($520,000), according to the BBC. He couldn't immediately be reached for comment.
The BBC also said Ms. Boaden has taken up a role as director of BBC Radio.
She had to step aside for a period from November last year while an independent panel reviewed the BBC's management of the Savile affair. The probe centered on the BBC's spiking of an investigation by its Newsnight public-affairs program into allegations of child sexual abuse against the now-deceased Jimmy Savile. It concluded that the cancellation of the investigation was "seriously flawed" but not made "for any improper reason" or because of managerial pressure, clearing the BBC of allegations of a coverup,
Ms. Boaden returned to her job late last year and moved to radio in February. She wasn't immediately available for comment Tuesday.

Powerful Earthquake Strikes in Iran
TEHRAN — A powerful earthquake that struck southeastern Iran was felt in
several countries in Asia on Tuesday, rocking buildings in the Indian
capital of New Delhi, sending panicked resident of Karachi, Pakistan,
fleeing into the streets and causing tremors through Persian Gulf
states. Iranian officials said they expected many deaths.
The earthquake measured 7.8 on the Richter scale and its epicenter was
near Khash, Iran, not far from Iran’s border with Pakistan, the United
States Geological Survey said.
An Iranian official told state television that he expected hundreds of deaths because of the severity of the earthquake.
The worst-hit area, along Iran’s southeastern border, is home to nearly 2
million people, who live in three main cities, Zahaedan, the provincial
center, and the epicenter of the earthquake between the cities of
Saravan and Khash, where roughly 400,000 people live, the semiofficial
Tabnak Web site reported.
The semiofficial Fars news agency quoted Iran’s seismology center as saying the earthquake was the worst in 40 years.
The United States Geological Survey reported that the earthquake had a
depth of 9.7 miles. Such deep earthquakes are rare and have greater
destructive capability.
Iran has often been the epicenter of powerful earthquakes, some of which
have taken tens of thousands of lives. In 2003, an 6.6 earthquake near
the city of Bam killed at least 26,000 people, and in 1990 at least
30,000 people died in a quake along the Caspian Sea. Last week, a 6.1
quake hit in Bushehr Province, home to Iran’s main nuclear reactor,
killing more than 30 people.
Unlike the earthquake in Bam, the epicenter of Tuesday’s earthquake was not directly under a densely populated area.
“The quake was felt in Sistan-Baluchistan Province in the cities of
Zabol, Konarak and Khash,” said Mahmoud Mozaffar, the head of the Relief
Office of the Iranian Red Crescent, according to local media.
“The quake was felt in seven villages, including Gasht, Kouh Sefid,
Pashtouk and Tizab. Due to the low population density of these regions,
we hope that the casualties are not too much,” he said.
In the largest city close to the epicenter, Saravan, a state of emergency was declared, other officials said.
Sistan-Baluchistan Province is among the poorest of Iran. Most residents
are Sunni Muslims and many are from the Baluchi tribe which originates
in Iran and Pakistan. The area is known for its drug trade and is
regularly the scene of bombings carried out by separatists groups.
In Karachi, the southern port city in Pakistan, local television
broadcast images of people standing out on the streets after fleeing
high-rise buildings. Tremors were felt most strongly in southern and
central parts of Pakistan.
“It seems as if the buildings will fall any minute,” an unidentified man
in Karachi told GEO News, a private television news network.
The only report of fatalities, however, came from the adjoining province
of Baluchistan, which borders Iran, where the Human Rights Commission
of Pakistan reported five deaths. Tahir Hussain, a lawyer with the human
rights group, said five people had been killed in the remote town of
Panjgur, 50 miles from the border with Iran.
“A wall collapsed and five people lost their lives, including three
children and a woman,” he said, speaking by phone from Quetta, the
capital of Baluchistan.
In New Delhi, which is periodically shaken by temblors, the distant
quake could be felt through the city, as buildings shook for more than
10 seconds and, in some areas, frightened people ran into the streets.
No injuries were reported, nor were there any early reports of property
damage in the Indian capital.
Jim Yardley contributed reporting from New Delhi, Salman Masood from Islamabad, Pakistan, and Gerry Mullany from Hong Kong.

The 2 Things Savvy Interviewers Are Looking For
The 2 Things Savvy Interviewers Are Looking For
By Arnie Fertig
Any employer will want to understand how you meet his or her needs before taking yours into consideration. When you keep this in mind, you will understand that the fastest way to find a job is to find the employer who thinks you represent the answer to his or her problem. To paraphrase President Kennedy's famous inaugural dictum: Ask not what an employer can do for you … ask what you can do for an employer. When you winnow down all the possible jobs that you might apply for into the jobs for which you're most suited for to attain success, you will have the time and energy necessary to make each application, interaction and interview count. Rather than taking an unfocused shotgun approach, you will be able to psych out what employers are looking for … and give it to them with a customized cover letter, resume and phone-screening interview all leading up to the main event: the in-person job interview.
There is no end to articles and books written to tell interviewers how to do their jobs, and job seekers how to gain success. But in well-conducted job interviews, every question has some function relating to finding the person who can meet these two key employer objectives:
1. People who have the right behavior patterns for the job. Different jobs require different kinds of behavior patterns. Some require assertiveness, others require people to passively do whatever they're told. Some jobs are best filled by people with effervescent personalities, while others are better suited to the kind of person who prefers to interact with his or her computer over people, and so on.
As you prepare for your interview, think about what kind of qualities and personality the employer might deem best, and assume that you will encounter some questions that will probe to see if you fit. Come to your interview prepared with stories that demonstrate how you have exhibited these kinds of actions in your current or past roles. You will likely find an opportunity to tell your stories in response to questions that begin with something like: "Tell me about a time when you… [fill in the blank]."
2. People who possess the core competencies required for success. If you take the time to closely read a job description, you can discern the competencies that are associated with a position's requirements. For example, one random job posted recently calls for someone to be a "liaison for…", "gain approval for…", "track success…", "contribute to…", "execute marketing activities…" and "ensure budgets and schedules meet corporate requirements."
Ask yourself what is required to attain success for each of these bullet points. To be a liaison and gain approval for things, one must have solid oral and written communication skills. To track success, you must be detail oriented, and likely have the ability to negotiate spreadsheets. To contribute, someone most likely requires a collegial, team-based approach to work. To keep budgets on track likely requires someone with a head for numbers.
Each job, of course, will have its own stated requirements, and behind each one will lay one or more particular skills. As you prepare for your job interview, figure out how your past performance demonstrates that you possess the skills necessary to fulfill the job's requirements. Be prepared with plenty of examples and stories that can convince any interviewer that you have "the right stuff."
You might think of an interview as something of an interrogation where you hope to get the "right" answers. To be sure, there is likely to be a good deal of this kind of Q-and-A. But skilled interviewers and job hunters will be able to use this as a jumping off point for a larger discussion that can serve to build a relationship.
In the course of this discussion, your interviewer will not only be listening to what you say, he or she will also evaluate how you say it to gauge your communications skills and style. He or she will look to see your level of alertness, how you physically present yourself, and your level of self-confidence. Much will be intuited by interpreting your body language.
If you have done your interview preparation well, you will be able to sit proudly in your chair, look your interviewer in the eyes, and tell your unique stories in an engaging fashion. And when you do, you're most likely to make that final pivot from what you can do for the employer to how the employer can lure you to take the job before you accept any other offer.
Happy hunting!

Why is Ravindra Jadeja often referred to as Sir Jadeja?
Why is Ravindra Jadeja often referred to as Sir Jadeja?
Ravinder Jadeja scored three triple hundreds in first class cricket, and hence was given the title of 'Sir' by trollers.
There was a time when MS Dhoni was tweeting and trolling Sir Jadeja (in good spirit) very often until Sir Jadeja 'revoked' permission to troll him.
Ravindra Jadeja
Calling it a 'joke', 'Sir' Ravindra Jadeja says he has no problem with the prefix before his name as long as his Chennai Super Kings and India teammates are enjoying the all-rounder's 'knighthood'.
"I think it is a joke and we are enjoying. Nothing serious in that matter. I don't think I am a great man. I just want to be what I am right now. I am not seriously thinking about the title 'Sir' and all that. It's okay as everybody is enjoying in the team and it's fine," he said. The 24-year-old led Chennai Super Kings to a thrilling last-ball win over Royal Challengers Bagalore in the Twenty20 League on Saturday.
"In the last over we needed 16, so we were thinking that whatever will be in our reach we will go for them. (MS) Dhoni had got out in the penultimate over so we thought what would happen. But (Dwayne) Bravo, (Chris) Morris and I backed ourselves and won the game off the last ball."
Chennai have been pulling off such close matches quite frequently, and Jadeja attributed it to the presence of quality all-rounders in the side.
"The thing is that we have got good allrounders. Bravo, (Albie) Morkel, Morris and I. There are four all-rounders so our batting is good and till number nine everybody can bat."
"We also have two genuine fast bowlers. Therefore we get advantage in the first six-seven overs as they don't give away much. In the middle overs, at times, our batting gets a bit slow but we are working on it. We will concentrate on singles and doubles."
Bucking the trend of letting R Aswhin have a go at Chris Gayle, Chennai on Sunday handed over the ball to Dirk Nannes and Morris when the West Indian was at the crease.
"It was a good wicket to bat on. Earlier days the wicket used to turn a bit more but this year none of the spinners have been able to turn or beat the bat. It is dependent on the wicket. In T20 you usually get these kind of flat wickets."
"Gayle is such a batsman that he can hit any bowler in any ground for a six. Therefore, we were thinking that for him we will have a different strategy to not give him runs and take his wicket."
