Good image editing softwares

Are you looking for a good freeware image editing software, doing some basic
stuff like resize, crop, color contrast etc - something on the lines of
photoshop, not sure if it is to much to ask for (freeware) ?

are you seeking for any recommendations from first hand experience's ?

Try using irfan view.

The best free one out there, small, powerful, and loads of features.
Can't ask for more!

Doesnt fly in ubuntu post 10.04,  Even with Wine

IMHO, 'some basic stuff like resize, crop, color contrast' and 'on the
lines of photoshop' are too far apart :) If you want something on the
lines of photoshop (read 'nearly as powerful as photoshop'), then
gimp/gimpshop is the way to go. There are others like CaptureOne(free of
cost but not open source).
In my experience, for basic touch-ups, Picasa is a good bet. FastStone
image viewer is good too.

Viewer:
XnView http://www.xnview.com/

Editing:
Paint.NET http://www.getpaint.net/
Pinta http://pinta-project.com/
PhotoFiltre http://photofiltre.free.fr/frames_en.htm
GIMP http://www.gimp.org/

IrfanView was more of 'blazing fast' viewer.
like XnView more for its bunch renaming capabilities.
You can try GIMP or try Try PhotoScape.

 Photoscape.

you can do basic editing like colour correction, crop, resizing, adding frames
and watermarks etc.also supports batch processing and raw file processing.
